Why do people get upset when others want to name their child something unique?
what is wrong with not wanting your child to be named the same as all others...
I asked a question asking about the names i like and got some very rude comments... all i asked was which was prefered..not how i should teach my child values and all that crap...
why do people get so angry when you dont want your child to be a Sarah, or Michael...
Why do people get upset when others want to name their child something unique?
Nothing wrong with having a unique name but there is a fine line between unique and insane. Taking a traditional name and spelling it differently or even giving it a different pronounciation is unique but giving a child a name like Pilot Inspektor is just plain wrong.
Reply:Forget those people, name your child however you wish. I have some odd names picked out too. When my child is in school I dont want it to be like, "hey you know Joe," and the response is "which one?" I like rare names. You go for it!!!
Reply:I think people get upset because they have insecurities from when they were taunted as a child, and all they can think of is if you give your child a unique name, he or she will be taunted, also. The decision is yours to make. If you give your child a name that he/she ends up hating, the name can always be changed. I have never liked my name, but I've stuck with it!
Reply:Because it sounds stupid and we feel sad for the children. There are thousands of names to choose from out there. I know children with "unique" names and they are awful names. It's also very trendy like when hippies and flower children were naming their kids Starshine and Autumn. Ever heard the names of Frank Zappa's kids? Look them up.
My name is Patricia, and while it is a normal name it is not as common, as, say, Jennifer or Michelle. When I went to elementary school there were several hundred kids attending and for many years I was the only Patricia, sometimes one of two. In high school there were two thousand kids attending, and there were only a handful of "Patricias". Same thing with college. Just think to yourself, would you like to be 75 and your name be Mykenzee?
Reply:i see it like this they're just mad because thy didn't come up with the name thats all.
Reply:So when everyone has a unique name who will be the unique ones?
Because there is power in names. There is history in names. By making up names people are going against tradition. It is just another burden that children will have to carry.
Mispronounced names will be common place. It is like naming your son Shelby. While it is an acceptable male name in some parts of the country, in others it is the name you give to a girl and still others you name a pet.
Being unique for unique's sake is not a virtue. If you want your child to be unique, do them a favor, teach them that it is okay to be different. Giving them a made up name is just going to get them picked on.
Reply:i dont think its so much about a unique name..people just dont like stupid names...like this couple who had 5 kids...the boys were all named ivan...the daughters were..unique ans isis....alright the only unique name that wont get made fun of is isis!
Reply:Well. . me personally. . . . I say to each their own. Howver. . . I find it completely stupid how everybody these days feels they have to name their child something nobody would ever think of or after some idiotic hollywood type. Names like shaquella, shaniqua, beyonce, quazell, tupac, and other pathetic ones are just enough to make me sick! And don't even get me started on the idiot so called adults and musicians with names like diddy, the dumb *** formally known as. . . snoop dog, and all the other ghetto idiots who think they are cool when they really are morons. By definition. . cool. . . is never having to act cool. The entire music industry. . especially crap rap should learn from this. All these moronic ghetto names are just a joke!
Reply:I KNOW RIGHT. It's your life. If you want a unigue name then thats you. They can keep there plain old boring names!
Reply:People get upset because they foresee the teasing the child is going to have to endure because his/her parent had to be "unique". Usually "unique" means ridiculous name. Like celebrities naming their children things like Tiger Lily, Moon Unit, Coco and Apple.
It is totally your choice. And clearly, unique does not have to mean ridiculous. But don't expect everyone to be happy. Many people feel sorry for the poor child who has to live with a name like that. There are names that fall somewhere in between outrageous and common.
Reply:cause some of those names are just retarded. you're setting ur kid up to be made fun of.
Reply:I am not sure why. My child calls his dad by his first name. He never said Da Da just his dads name we never corrected it. And he still calls his dad by his first name. He had an accepted name and then in short version it is unaccepted. So he is okay and accepted of his nick name and given name and still calls his dad by his given name and calls me mom%26gt; go figure? A little confusing but his nick name is longer than his given name. And his dads name is shorter than his nick name but my son calls him the longer version? ha ha
Reply:I know your experience, only with a twist. My adopted son came to us as a foster child with 5 names already. When we adopted him we wanted to give him our own name. Birthmom begged us to keep his whole name (it was a given he would keep his first name). So we solved it by keeping his old whole name, adding the 2 names I wanted, and our last name. So he has 8 names, but we call him Buster.
People look at us like we're looney tunes when we tell them his whole name. Family is the worst. But we did what we thought was the right thing by birthmom, yet I finally got to name a child as well. We were both happy.
And my son.....he loves it, he finds it a novelty to tell his classmates and see their reaction. He announces his name with pride, and a big grin.
Reply:I don't get upset, but would urge people to think of how they would feel if they were growing up with an unusual name, would it lead to the child being bullied at school? I had a friend called Sunshine and she was tortured because of that. It's your child and in the end you should call it what you want, but if you do be prepared to face ridicule from people, it's a risk you take.
Reply:Everybody in my family *except my grandpa* screamed and yelled til they were blue in the face over what i named my son *Daemion* He's gonna have a hard time spelling that. He's gonna get made fun of by the other little kids cause the movie the omen.. That when i had to point out the fact to them.. By the time the kids see that damn movie.. They well be out of the name calling stage. It will be more like f*ck you and so on... Yeah I ended up screaming at everyone telling them to kiss my white a** if they didnt like the name. Its not their kid so it doesnt matter what they think the name should be.
Reply:When people ask "What name do you like better...X or Y?" they should be prepared for opinions...some nice and some not so nice. I think there's a difference between "unique" and just plain trashy/ghetto. I don't generally get upset and scream at people who have (what I consider to be) strange names picked out. I do give them my honest opinion though, and I don't sugar coat it.
When I read a strange name, my *immediate* thought is "How the heck is that little girl going to grow up and be taken seriously in the professional world as a doctor, attorney, accountant, etc. with a name like Shanequia Skye or Davinida Kimber?"
Reply:I don't think there is anything wrong with unique names...but you need to realize what you're setting your child up for. Constantly having to spell it out, sound it out, etc. with everyone they meet! I think people tend to judge for one of two reasons - 1. To be racist %26amp; prejudicial. 2. Because they dislike seeing more children subjected to the stereotype of weird/un pronouncable names. Give them a better chance to succeed - after all, how many CEO's have you heard of named Shaniqua or LaFonda? Studies have proven that the more "ethnic" sounding the name, the more prejudice their resumes receive before making it to a first interview! Try to come up with a unique, yet still simple name - something with an easy, just-as-it-sounds spelling (and not too long)! This way, she'll still be one-of-a-kind, but not enough to cause undue hardship. Good luck!
Reply:Because they wish they would of thought of it themselves... ha
Reply:They just want their child name to be the one, only one, OR to be the first.
Nothing wrong of using same names, but you can always add to make a new additional unique name to it.
EG: Bond.. anyone using that name? James have it. Y not John Bond, Sims Bond.. should be OK . something unique too.
Reply:A baby is cute %26amp; little, but they grow up to be adults. Do you want your kid to go through a business life with a cutsey-poo name or trying to get others to spell or pronounce their name right? It's your baby, but they're going to have to live with that name! Think about it!
Reply:they're just afraid of change. I personally think it's a simple of that, people are afraid that they're world will one day be so different then it once was they will no longer be able to understand it.

Is a personal website with a unique domain name an effective way to meet women? Will they view it?
I have two very advanced professional websites I use as a personal ad and for my business. I even have two seperate domain names. Is this effective for meeting women? If I give out my web address, will a woman see it?
Is a personal website with a unique domain name an effective way to meet women? Will they view it?
This might be a way to meet women, but what kind of women are you going to meet? Are they going to be pre-qualified, are they going to be right for you? I will share with you the four levels of attraction venues(where to meet potential life partners).
1- Public places- supermarket, bars, post office, etc.
2- Singles settings- groups, personal ads, etc. All you know about them is that they are single.
3- Groups that you share a strong interest with- ski club, yoga class, etc.
4- Settings in which you share important values with everyone there- church, personal growth venues, etc.
It's easier to meet someone that is right for you, at level 3 and 4 settings. If you are just looking to recreationally date, the website might work. If you are seriously looking for your life partner, I would try another way.

Do you have a unique name for a bird?
i need the cutest or nicest unique name you have. it is just a name and a meaning if there is one. the best one gets the best answer! thx
Do you have a unique name for a bird?
Some nice (but different) bird names...
-Aderyn (means "bird" in Welsh) Nicknames- Addie or Deryn
-Avis (means "desired,bird" in English)
-Hiroto (means "soar, fly" in Japanese) Nickname- Hiro
-Miku (means "beautiful,sky,future" in Japanese)
-Sarika (means "parrot, myna bird" in Indian)
-Sora (means "sky" in Japanese)
Those are just some suggestions. If you go onto the website listed below, you can look up names with meanings (in the search bar) that describe your bird (ex: if your bird is green, look that up under "meanings" and you'll get all sorts of names with "green" meanings). You can also go to "Name Themes" for ideas and "Names for Twins" if you have two birds. Anyway, good luck finding the perfect name!
Reply:I know this won't get the best answer. But you should probly listen to this. If your bird is going to talk name it something with 1 or 2 syllables. Also you should probably make the name something that has letters that you that your tounge touches the roof of your mouth to say such as t, d and g.
This will make it easier for your bird to say it's name and it will probably help him speak better.
Reply:feathers.
Reply:If this is for a particular bird, what type of bird and what colour is it? That might help. :D
Zero
Azura (sky blue)
Aira (of the wind)
Coral
Aria (melody.. for a noisy bird)
Anakin (warrior.. for a more aggressive bird)
Here are some of the more unique names I've given to my own birds, maybe one or two might inspire you:
* Quetzalcoatl (god with a serpent body and feathered wings)
* Cyclone (my bird is grey... reminded me of a storm)
* Cactus (my bird is red and green and reminded me of a flowering cactus)
* Zenith (the highest point... I wanted a strong name)
* Saffron (meaning yellowish colour... my bird has unusual amount of yellow)
* Nova (new)
* Seth (god of chaos... my black finch was an aggressive and territorial little thing)
* Dante (just seemed to suit a black coloured bird...)
* Namida (Jap for 'tear' - zebra finch has a teardrop marking)
* Isis (mythology - mother of Horus the hawk god)
* Fenris (wolf god)
* Zellkai ('Zell' is a Final Fantasy character and I liked the name 'Kai'.. just put them together for my lorikeet)
* Cal (similar to 'Callum' which means dove... my bird is a dove)
* Atari (part of the Jap word for 'raven'.. her partner was named Raven)
* Blue Smoke (white finch)
* Sylvar (silver bird)
* Five II (named after one of my other birds who was the 5th to hatch)
* Sobek (Egyptian crocodile god... my zebra finch is quite a biter and has a leg ring on each foot like crocodiles in ancient Egypt)

Reply:sorry i can't be of help. i had a cockatoo when i was younger and named him 'cockie', and i've had birds. i used to have a blue bird named ben, and a yellow bird named goldie, but when goldie died, we got a light blue bird and named her skye. and when they were gone, we replaced them with budgies which we named bonnie and clyde.

I miss having a bird =(
Reply:For a boy Amun. It means The Hidden one in Ancient Egypt. For a girl Maya.It means Water in Indian.
Reply:Well, Kai is my cockatoo. I got her name because the goffins cockatoo originated on the Kai islands
Macai is a lory and I just made up her name. From the way the bird acts, the name should mean "spoiled brat" :)
Clipper the cockatiel is named because she can still fly even when her wings and tail feathers are clipped as short as you can!
Pebo is a sun conure who named himself. I had named him sunshine, but every time you call him that, he bites you and says "no, PEBO!" and we just figured out that he's probably saying that he's a people!
Hush-a-boo is another conure that came to live with me after his old (and elderly) owner died. He would scream and then say "Hush-a-boo" and the name just kind of stuck.
Chili was named after his favorite food
Cliffie the duck was named because I had gotten her and she got a green head, but I didn't know at that time that she was a mix between two kinds of ducks and that either gender can have green heads. I had originally named her cliffton after the imaginary duck that ran for student government in middle school. The day she started laying eggs I had to change her name to Cliffie.
Lani is another Lory who only makes one noise. She's slightly brain damaged and spends hours parading around the bottom of her cage repeating "Lani-Lani-Lani"
Reply:Before I had a parkeet that it has a bright yellow face...I named her Sunshine.....
Reply:When naming your bird you should try to give it a unique name that is appropriate and appealing. You didn't mention what type of bird you have , but going b your nickname I persume it might be a budgie ( parakeet ).
Using that as a starting point I suggest trying to tie your
bird to a characteristic or profession with its' name- "Paratrooper", " Paramedic", "Paralegal", ect.
Next would be to tie the name to its' color, such as "Margarita" for a green bird, "Lemons" or "Old Yeller" for a yellow bird, or "Blue boy" or "Skye" for a blue bird.
Use lots of imagination.
Also consider joining a Yahoo bird group. They have lots of experienced people who can help with all problems, large and small. Here's a very good one to try:
